Nothing too crazy

Since I bailed on Russ for Sunday shopping we made plan for the weekend of the 16th. up until then I didn't really do anything except Kelly and I went shopping and I got this stuff.

I bought that dress for 30 bucks then two shops away saw the same one for 10 bucks. I returned it and bought the cheap one of course.

That was really it other than on Friday I went and had deep fried food with Kelly.

Movie, Shopping, Fireworks and oh, can you pass the Embarrassment?

Well I have been lazy about this I blame the popular sitcom "Weeds" but I am caught up now.

The following actually took place two weeks ago.

Friday night, Kelly and I had a snack I had curry with octopus. Kelly had a pork cutlet. It was only so so, though it was so much for so cheap. Then we went to see Letters to Juliet. It was okay but the guy in its face was weird. I liked the old lady though.

Saturday, I woke up early and got on the bus to find Cassandra. I went to the fountain as instructed however she wasn't there. I called her on a pay phone but it didn't work. I thought I was doing something wrong but no! Later I called Brittany and Brock who were supposed to meet up with us later to see if they had heard from her. They did she was somewhere weird so I was going to just visit every bus terminal. However I noticed there was a separate wing and I found her.

First we went out for breakfast in Itaewon for eggs Benedict. It was delightful. Let me Tell you about Cassandra. She is really nice and we met in Toronto while we were getting interviewed by the Consulate. She is from Toronto, plans on teaching for life and works in Yeoju. We had extra time because the bus for Brittany and Brock was delayed so we went to the mall. It was lack luster for me but I hear the aquarium is great.

Then we left to meet up with Brittany and Brock to visit the tomb of a King. Had an energy drink. We had a lovely guide we could barely understand who was kind of adorable. He had a folder with pictures so that helped.

Here is Brock and Brittany in front of it.

Here are some weird trees we passed.

Here's Cassandra in front of a temple?

Then we ate Indian and raced to see the fireworks. Here's a picture and a video. There is also another video on my video dailymotion where Cassandra talks about her discomfort with our position on the highway, the cost of fireworks and her wedding plans. We were just walking on the highway which was on a bridge. It was unsafe, but there were tons of people and cops with neon vests on that said "best driver". Here you go.

I say people are stopped in the middle of the street but I mean cars that were driving on the highway stopped to watch the fireworks. The worst part were the motor bikers turning their heads. Also yes I know how dorky I sound saying just talking to my blog.

Then we started having drinks. One beer on the sidewalk to start. Then we got on the subway and went to the first bar. Vinyl is shaped like a robot and serve drinks in a bag.

I had grapefruit and vodka.

Then we went to a bar and drinks were cheap. Cassandra bought lots and I followed suit. Terrible idea. We played pool and darts. Then we went to a different bar. I remember dancing and then drinking out of a bucket. I danced and puked hard for the remainder of the night. Here are some pictures from Cassandra's blog.

Bucket of bad news

During the first week of October

These fine fellows live at the end of my block in a hair salon. Sometimes they come out and say hi at the crosswalk when I am going back to work. I really like them.

There is a vendor of these products on my way home. I asked Kelly and another teacher about them. There are fish shaped, pancake kinda things with either red bean paste or custard in them. They come out in the fall because they are served hot. I had one it was good. Then I gave the other two to Julie the Korean teacher cause she always helps me when something is in Korean. She gave me a cute elastic with a ribbon on it.

A New Friend!

So I started talking to this girl on FB that is from here and speaks great English. She is only 18 which in Canada means 17. Yeah my only Korean friend is 10 years younger than me. Anyway she is in university here and they were having special performances for some kind of break they are having. She invited me and we met up first for a meal. It was pasta and it was alright. I had garlic and butter with shells. hahaha no not really they were clams but that's what my translator said.

Then we went to the concert. First there were lots of dancing in unison and bands from Chuncheon like this.

Then we sat on the ground but I had to go to the washroom so we left. On the way I saw a beautiful kitten on a leash. I told Kelly about it and on the way back I got her to take a picture. I apologize if you have already seen this on facebook.

Then main performances started! First Sistar! My camera died so here is their video.

Apparently the main attraction was stuck in a traffic jam in a city of 200,000 people on a Tuesday. Supreme Team! they finally arrived and they said oh shit two times... like they know what it means. It was really strange to hear two korean guys do hip hop type music. Girls were screaming and people were jumping. Also one chorus was just "do what you want to". Here is a taste.

Seriously I saw them LIVE! IRL!

The Lost Weekend

This weekend I stayed in until Sunday night. I decided this was a good time and opportunity to really put myself out there in an online capacity. I contacted some friends of friends and hopefully this type of weekend will not occur again unless desired. I have plans this weekend and I could not be happier. Here are some things I bought during my Sunday stroll first through Myeong-Dong I had not yet seen and also at Hanaro mart where I grocery shopped after.

These Vans were on sale, one pair in my size for $20. Then I saw the match for the pair which had been the display model and it was almost a different color. After some carefully pondering and confusing gestures with the sales person I decided that they were so white that within a couple days they would scuffed anyway. Also there were identical to my keds which I wore to death. Then at the till wonderful surprise! Only $10 and a $5 off my next purchase coupon! Lucky day!

Then I grocery shopped. I was pumped for this pre-made octopus curry and a normal curry powder as well as some gum. Though I will not buy gum again because I eat 5 pieces at a time.

This was disappointing. Not hot and spicy as advertised.

This gum is called ID for I'm Different. Something I always hoped my gum would say for me. Lastly I just straight up ate this curry in a bowl nothing else except jalapenos. I do not suggest this it is VERY high sodium.

til the next!

1 Month Anniversary

This week went quickly and there really was nothing memorable that happened. Though people have been asking how the job is going. I work with the preschoolers from 9:30-2pm. They are great. They speak english well and I like all but one class and classes are at the most 8 kids. I feel like I should probably loosen up with them but it will take time. After 3pm I teach kindergarten to grade 8ers. This is the worst. It is not well organized, the kids see us less and they really don't care. I hate it. Friday I have 4 classes after 2pm which means I am there until 8:40pm. I have to long breaks but it still sucks.

Politics within the school are another issue since my boss doesn't speak English we have to get a Korean teacher involved and vice-versa which can be really awkward. Also I guess the Korean teachers try to blame stuff on us and we can't protest because we can't talk to our boss cause she doesn't understand us.

Here is the view from the stairwell.

job

I like this better than my last job. Time goes quickly.

Chuseok Final Installment

I went back to Seoul on Saturday but this time I went to Itaewon, which is like the foreigner friendly knock-off shopping zone. There were more white people there than I have seen this entire time. I didn't buy anything but I liked some things but will take some time to think them over. Then I tried to catch the bus but they were all full until 10:10pm so I went to dongdaemun to this mall. It was okay but I got sick of how trendy things were. How many army green anoraks can there really be and do you really all need one. Here are some photos I took of the area.

Sunday I just hung out and watched TV on my computer.

End of Chuseok
