It was Martyn's Birthday! Several friends went to his apartment had fun and dicussed which NYC lyricist was superior. Went to hongdae got silly and then weird and then silly again and then we had a friendly sleepover. In the morning we went here. I didn't get bored and showed Cam how to shop.

Three friends!

Cam had a nice drink!

I am new to meat and Dre just never had one before! Fries + Hotdog = nice!

We spilled immediately!

Bye Bye!

PS I am totally coming home! I thought about it for a long time!

Ipsos Insanity Krew

Josh and Carrie came to Korea! So on Wednesday I went with them to 춘천 명동 for Dakgalbi. After a long and confusing cab ride I ate it for the second time. I don't feel bad. Whoops. Oh it's chicken.

Then we walked around and then we went to Sumusup where I live to drop things off and have beer. It was really nice, I really like them. There are special holes in the table that are refrigerated especially for your beer.

The next day we and Kelly went to have Korean barbecue and I ate that too.

I really like this photo. I ate bbq again the next day. I don't know what this means for me, as in if I am still a pescetarian. But let's be honest my morals on this have always been a little loose considering I would accidentally eat meat and not care or the fact that I just don't care about hurting a fish? Maybe it is just me time in all conceivable ways. Sorry animals. I had fried chicken at lunch and plan on destroying some taco bell this weekend.

After we went home and watched Korean dramas and ate Korean treats. They went to Seoul the next morning and I met them later that night. We walked around Hongdae and we got some street foods then tried to find a nice drink. Ho bar was loud and doesn't have Korean beer? Then we went to some music bar which was alright. The next morning had breakfast in a cute cafe we hit up Dongdaemun, Kwangjang, the Palace and Insadong. Here are some choice photos.

Insadong was a total bummer for me. We were tired and then we also stumbled into super drunk foreigner time cause of St. Patrick's. The sound of drunken English yelling at this point is beyond jarring. It just felt disrespectful but I am a bit sensitive to this. We went out for BBQ again with some of Carrie's old students. Then I tucked them in cause they had an early flight and went off to Hongdae for fun. I found a lost Russ we went to a hip hop show where Martyn, Dre and Cam were.  Here's the view.

After that we went to MWG where we met up with some of my favorite Koreans and Chase. We danced hard, some girls either mocked or tried to copy my moves and I met one of the dudes in the picture I wasn't sure I had met yet. Then we left and I ate a kebab er whatever it was beyond delicious and it started to rain. I found a hat and put it on over my toque (knit winter hat) and asked if it was a good look. The answer is no. More importantly did you lose your hat?

In order to retrieve this please tell me which "Insanity Krew" you belong to in the comments section.

Josh and Carrie were gone when I woke up and it was sad as always. I really love them and I am really glad we got to know each other.
Shout outs to ALEX PARROT, Cindy and Tyson for all skyping me on the same day. I love you guys you are the best. Other friends feel bad for not calling me.

Also I don't know when I am coming back. I might comeback and leave again I might travel then come back here and or I might not even move back to Winnipeg. I have no anchor or responsibilities and it is almost more stressful. At this time I am thinking traveling for a bit through Southeast Asia and India then coming back and doing 6 more months then heading to Europe then home. OR doing another 6 months now and then traveling through all of those places and then heading home in the summer. I just don't want to return in the winter and I want a car.

Here's a shirt I found in Korea's version of Walmart that an old lady or child will likely buy.

An Exploration of the Underground Seoul Music Scene.

It was Joe's birthday I was several hours late and he yelled at me down the street. I apologized. I walked to the bus depot but I forgot my debit card so I hard to cab back home and then back to the station. Bummer. So I tried buying him meals but he wouldn't let me. We had two meals at Coex and one beer it was nice I miss him. To the left is the walk.

Let's start with hip hop. Okay this is hard to quantify in some way cause I don't know what they are saying and that is at least 50% of the appeal. I like it when they talk about how cool, wasted, tough or pimping they are and am constantly amazed by the new terms and slang they come up with to tell me. Genius. I should also mention that of the Korean Hip Hop I have seen thus far was not impressive just based on appearance. Looking real female.

When I first arrived there was some kind of slow jam duets going on. I did not like it and I left cause there was a hardcore show going on at the same time. That was nice and many friends were in attendance. I voted these guys best dressed but I was not crazy about the sounds.

Okay I walked back to the hip hop. It was better at that point. The sounds were nice and they threw out candies and everyone was on stage. Then some man came out and everyone went wild. Here he is... well kind of my camera was dying and it sucks anyway.

I have no idea who he was. There was also a man on stage with a rasta hat and a do the right thing shirt. I tip my hat to his knowledge of hip hop related films however there is very little to no weed in Korea so let's get real.

The sounds reminded me of the early 90s, which was a nice time in music unless it gets too jazzy which this didn't. Here's a terrible view, as in I am terrible at making videos.

Supa Chups by melaniereimer

I can't imagine they were talking about cool things like guns and hoes cause they all seemed too happy. They were all smiley the whole time and not like a side grin when you talk about private romantic things or drunk grin like Gza last year. Maybe they only talk about partying? girls? I don't think I will do this again cause I can't really relate but it was an itch that needed scratching I guess and I imagine it was better than any other Korean Hip Hop I could have seen. I doubt my Korean will ever be good enough that I can really appreciate it fully though. The crowd was young and it ended at at like 8pm.

Back to hardcore. Things We Say.

Badabie March 12 2011 by melaniereimer

There was a gorilla biscuits cover and I broke the mic with my purse somehow. Whoops. The show ended and we went to spot for more however free drinks started and I got too silly. Also the crowd was very different and not as smart? At some point I got knocked into a cement staircase and I think it like shook something back into place eventually but before that these things happened.

Second Title: Hello free drinks. Goodbye dignity.

I think Korea is trying to break me at this point. Last weekend I traded in blackout drunk for puking. Yeah I am 28 years old. Whoops. I think this might also have something to do with my smoking as well. Packs are 2 dollars...see trying to break me. Here are somethings that happened that have resulted in my deciding to take it down on the drinking.

- buying cigarettes
- telling weird secrets to Jonah and Mason
- I tried leaning on something and just fell into a sit
- puking then dropping my ring in said toilet and immediately soaking my sleeve in puke/toilet water to retrieve it
- trying to meet up with someone with a dirty puke sleeve
- calling someone 6 times in a row. WTF, not normal for me. Maybe Korean girls but I was mortified when I saw my phone the next day. I guess it is commonplace here though cause he called 3 times at like 9am?

The next day I had a really long think in the spa and I am not really sure where to start. I definitely have become unhinged or derailed or something. When I got here I didn't even drink really. I need to take some time out and refocus. More studying, dancing and reading. I think home sickness and my complacency is catching up to me. It needed to, I have said/texted some pretty retarded and/or untrue statements. I have done some pretty stupid things even. My ego needed to drop a couple pegs and this has definitely done the trick. Still funny but verging on sad.

In other news I liked my outfit and tried to take a picture.

Feeling Nice and Silly Again. Thanks Universe.

Stephen Toedter and I have begun enjoying Fun Fridays. Since we are no longer working together we decided to have a night where we hang and catch up. This week we went to a weird sky lounge which was cold and drank a giant pitcher which we both spilled on the table. Stephen met a homosexual on his way to the bathroom and I ate many snacks.

Saturday I talked to Sarah P for some time after she got in an accident. No, no after a 17 year ran into her. She is okay! But times like these always make me feel like a total dink for leaving. I bought skype phone money so I called her parents house and talked to her in real life to make up for it.

I also called my dad but he wasn't there. I have not talked to him since I have been here and it is pretty sad. He emailed me the nicest email though, especially nice cause they take him about 2 hours to type out.

Okay though I was supposed to meet up with Cass for shopping but was totally late. Then she had to leave so we totally missed each other. It has been a seriously long time. We will try again this weekend. I went to dance class and then met up with Martyn at the park with some new friends including but not limited to Dre, Chase, Monkey, Harry Potter, Kyungjin, Zoo... There are photos of me with others I don't remember meeting. Like this...

The one at the bottom is Monkey and he was passing out so like a nice acquaintance should I jumped on the 2 couches beside him to mock it. I have no idea who the other guys are but I hope to sometime soon. But I am getting ahead of myself...

Here's fun being had first with at the park

Double fisting

I look pretttty wasted.

Having the actual funnest time. Look at my face.

K then we left and everywhere we thought of going had a high price so we really just went for a walk and then back to the same club I am almost always at. Then I met up with Myeong Jun and then there were free drinks and then it was the next day. I while trying to charge my subway card actually broke the machine. I was not feeling so awesome and my money got stuck in it. A man came and fixed it and I took this picture secretly while laughing.

I definitely just should have used the crisp 10,000 I had in my wallet. Whatever.

Other important notes on the weekend

- I dumped 2 drinks in my own face, one at dance class and one at the bar in front of a man I like (I don't he saw though)
- I said you know like Dr. Dre and laughed really hard alone, no one, including Dre was amused
- I lost a chap stick and a bandanna
- I smoke a lot now, have considered buying a pack
- my pants are so tight I think they are cutting off the circulation to my feet
- one of my classes tells me they love me all the time

SHOUT OUTS!

Darren, Jay, Sarah P, Kelly NYC, Cindy, Tyson (finally), Julianne (also finally) Martyn and Kelly KOR for being really awesome palz in the last couple of weeks. Whether talking to me endlessly on FB, always being solid and down for fun or just sending me general love and attention you guys are the best!

I have listened to this like over 20 times already. You can too.

Breakdancing, Bummers and Best Friends

I knew this weekend would come. It wasn't that bad but weekends kept getting crazier and crazier but this time it was just a normal amount of fun. I went to class.

Then I went to Hongdae and met up with friends at garage bar which was some breakdancing thing so I just danced the whole time but everyone was pretty young. For a dude great, but for me a bummer. I just danced and spent more time than I should have texting. The coolest (sarcasm) thing about the texts is that the long ones don't save to my outbox and I have little recollection of what was said and the replies do not make a ton of sense. Oopsies.. Almost passed out in a chair and walked to the hostel in the rain. Then confused by my covers just fell asleep in my wet jacket. Then didn't wake up until 1-2pm. Checkout was at noon. Sorry family, I have no kids or responsibilities or desire to become an adult yet. Age ain't nothing but a number. RIP Aaliya.

I met up with Martyn and we went to ROS vol.1 a 2 on 2 breakdancing competition. Pretty, pretty good. Rivers are my favorite, they were out fast. Sad. Otherwise I was feeling Extreme, Maximum and Last for One in that order. Extreme had the best mix of rhythm and power moves, but they lost to super power moves Bruce Lee. Whatever. Here's the video. The dudes that take of their shirts are Gamblerz and they won.

Yeah that is me yelling. But not screaming, those were the girls beside me who would stand every time Noodle was dancing. Not into his style or their screaming. However the shit he pulled at the end that was dead on each break was okay.

Martyn, Sophie and I went shopping and for coffee. Just so you know my shoe situation deserves an intervention.

I have bought all of these within the new year. Really within the last 6 weeks, that's a pair a week. I think I am complete now though. I hope..

Kelly is done cram school! We hung out not once but twice this week! Once for shopping and a movie. Then tonight for a haircut and dinner! I missed her! She is back! We are going to meet weekly for Korean lessons. My haircut is nice. I should never ever not have layers.

On to the next.

PS my video channel has had almost 500 views in only 6 months. That is a little crazy.

PPS I have officially been in Korea for 6 months today. It went so fast. I feel like I just got here.
