Fuck yeah Berlin. I was really excited. I walked to my hostel which was super pleasant though the hostel was not then slept cause it was late.
I went to see Alto Museum to kill time before seeing these young men. So adorable! like babies though.
It was fun and the venue was a building under the railway tracks! Neat! There was barely anyone there and it was awkward to be there alone.
Next day I just walked around park, downtown, looked at stuff, nothing crazy.
When I got back though I noticed that Hannah from Cali but that I met in Paris was in Berlin! So crazy so I made plans to meet at their hostel for breakfast. Woke up late, dressed inappropriately, and took a train the wrong way. Regardless made it and hung out with them for the day. Where we did the most brutal tour in the cold rain. Which I had to do to over again cause something happened with my camera... I had it but I dunno I stopped taking pictures maybe my hands were too cold. WHOOPS.
Here we are at the Jewish Monument. I'm the only one on the left with the tiny head.
Here I am after a beer. Oh you can drink anywhere there and people actually do unlike in Korea when you get weird looks for cracking a 40 on the subway. I look really fat because I was cold I pulled my arms in to my sweater like a little kid.
Then I went to see this man. I was kinda late and missed Gary War but made it and this is EXACTLY what it was like.
While looking for the perfect live video just now I watched many interviews...I had no idea what he looked like until the show and it was dark and he looked like a dad. I think he might have some kind of social disorder...into it.
Next day I walked around, did laundry, and got food. I think that's all I did that day but at some point I walked through everything again and also went to Tacheles. Which is a dirty free art squat. It was okay. Here's how it looked on the outside on the inside it was just all dark smelly and spray painted.
Berlin views
Museum Island
I went to the DDR museum which was so great! It was surprisingly interactive and lighthearted. As you can see here! It basically runs you through the day to day life of an East Berliner when it was separated. Communist kiss! but as you can see it is a wall and you would open the doors and there would be fun facts and games!
After that I decided Berlin was great and I hadn't spent a ton of money and my trip was almost over so I decided to go shopping. I found perfect shoes but they were giant. Then I bought a single white tee after hours of trying things on. I also played my luck with the subway quite a bit and got caught but not penalized. Usually you could spot the subway officials before they got on and I would just take a different train but this time they surprised me and when they were all "this ticket is wrong" I looked sad and said tourist and he didn't even try to explain it and let me go.
Next morning I set my alarm for 5 am to get on my flight for London. Did you know the cheap airlines are insane and first come first serve in terms of seats?!?! I didn't. Very surprising and stressful.
The bus was longish and I couldn't sleep. I also tried to break my change by buying cigarettes but the denominations I received from the ATM were too large and no one wanted them. Finally I got a ticket for the subway and it was only 3 stops and I could have walked it. It was really early so I couldn't check in so I just slept in a chair in the basement like the homeless person I truly am.
Next day I went to the castle here is a view of it from across the river.
Here is a view of a famous bridge you cross to get to it.
Here is the palace gates.
Kafka wuz here.
Old tyme prison and torture chamber. For serious.
A view of Prague from the castle.
Here is the downtown area. Very merry!
I ate this! It was cheap and delicious!
Another couple views of the castle! I was really taking great pics!
A view of the other side of the river (non castle)
This is called the Dancing House or Fred and Ginger.
Another great picture of the castle!
Prague.
Old town at night.
I'm unsure of when I took those photos in terms of days. I went shopping, to the Mucha museum, shopping the Lennon wall, the Jewish cemetery and then I decided to challenge myself to find as many Cerny public works I could http://www.davidcerny.cz/
Here they are.
This used to be there but it got taken down
That's it for Cerny and me cause I didn't find the embryo and futura gallery was closed.
This metronome replaced Stalin.
Another Prague view.
I met up with the Aussies again and it was nice. I took a long time to get there and Mill and I lost everyone and then we went to McDonalds? which they call Macker's or something.
So this was one of the more interesting voyages. I checked my bag with my passport in it but the girl wanted my passport to check me on to the bus? my drivers license did not suffice? For the BUS that cost about 7 euros. OK. Then about an hour in we stopped for gas. But then we didn't leave...yet the but was still running. I do not speak Hungarian but I think they didn't have enough money to pay for the gas. This set us back an hour. Other things to note, they played Captain America and there was a crazy smelly guy on the bus.
I decided last minute to switch my hostel as I read that the one I was going to did not have a door on the girls washroom? This would prove to be one of the better decisions I made the entire trip. Since we got in late the subway was closed. I had no idea what to do. Really everything hinged on my using public transport. Fuck. I got on a random trolley that seem to be heading in the right direction. I eventually noticed some American girls and asked them if they knew how I could get to my hostel. We got a cab and then everything was fine. The hostel was alright but I was tired. I met my room mate a French guy and when to bed.
Next day I woke up and noticed a pretty severe dirty person smell. WTF. I guess the guy from the bus arrived in the middle of the night to ruin my stay. I mean it wasn't strong so much as it was really disgusting. Clearly just unwashed genitals. There is a shower why wouldn't you use it? Since I was in the smaller room inside of the bigger room I just kept the doors closed and waited for him to leave. I could tell cause the smell would go away. I got ready and got groceries. This was the view outside of my hostel.
I needed food and coffee bad. I was getting everything ready and this troupe of Aussies were really fucking up my shit. Getting in my way, stealing my spot and all in all just annoying the fuck out of a coffee deprived and olfactory abused me. Not to mention they were mad cool but not trying to know me. Despite this I drank far too much coffee and spent the day on the internet freaking out about my internet relationship and the fact that my boss fucked me out of $800 to my internet boyfriend. I settled down and just started deleting people off of my facebook that I wouldn't say hi to in person, surprisingly relaxing.
There was an organized pub crawl going on and I was slightly interested only cause the guy who worked at the hostel invited me out and I hadn't done anything else that day. Oh that reminds me about these girls that were also there from Canada. Very annoying party girls. Definite woooooo girls. They announced everything loudly including the purchase of drugs and use of them in an apple bong. Also pulling the classic I am from Canada so this isn't even cold so I will dress inappropriately.
Regardless I decided to drink away my social discomfort and go out with strangers. The French guy from my room was there and we talked a lot cause I was the only person that could speak French, and we bonded over the sick smelling guy. Oh! another fun fact smelly dude also pissed all over the seat whenever he used the washroom. While walking to the bar I started talking with the Aussie girls that helped ruin my life earlier. Particularly Milli we bonded over how annoying the Canadian girls were, how much we hated each other earlier and hip hop. This eternal friendship was sealed when she asked about Lauren Hill and I told her I could do her entire verse from ready of not, she then challenged me to do it and I was drunk enough that once someone started me off I did.
Things got a little out of control activities after this included but are not limited to: bathroom drinking, fighting with a bartender, stealing the mic from a karaoke singer, singing our own karaoke songs poorly, stealing a beanie, dancing, yelling, multiple people street vomiting and serious heart to hearts.
Next morning the smell was unbearable. Plus I was a little hung over on top of getting cramps. Fuck this I am sleeping forever. Finally at 2pm I heard my room mate talking about me so I came out and Milli was waiting for me. everyone else went to a walking tour and to the baths. We chilled and watched movies until everyone got back and then we had burritos. I also decided to change rooms. I hadn't even considered it but it made sense. I got in with the girls plus Harry's room. Just to be clear the girls are Milli, Siena, Alex, Amity and Tess plus Tess's boyfriend Harry.
Next Day the girls packed up and I went with Harry and Tess to pick up bus tickets with plans then to go to the Terror Museum. But they tried to go to Eurolines but needed everyone's passport so it was a big mess. We decided instead to split and I would go to Terror and they would meet up later. Terror was long and there was a lot of reading and it was a bit of a bummer.
I went for a walk and tried to go to the baths but I was too late. Here is a photo I took.
Next day I checked out but I had an overnight bus so I read over all my terror info and then go out to the free walking tour. It was really cold but really good. Which I feel bad about cause I had no money. On the tour I met some other Canadian and we went out for dinner after. They were super nice. Here is a view from the tour. I was outside of the castle looking at the Parliament then my camera ran out of room or the batteries died IDK.
We went back to my hostel and got my bag and I said goodbye to my new friends. On to the next.
This entry's video is Big L and dedicated to Milli obv.
My train ride was relatively nice and empty, I got to charge my shit and lay down for a sleep. Once I got in I walked to a cafe cause I couldn't check in yet. I drew pictures, took notes and ate and drank this.
Once I checked in I did my laundry, this is not interesting save for the fact that I did not read the huge warning saying not to put in the money until my clothes were in and I had to go ask the nice man at the counter for money after sheepishly admitting I made a mistake. Another issue was there was only WIFI in the lobby. Annoying. There were signs about this saying that it was so we would get friendly. No thanks. I don't need you to try to force me into it either.
Next day after a long skype with Mel, I went to the Albertina.
A Magritte exhibit was going on. So wonderful!
The Hare! My Fav! Bad Pic!
Museum Quartier at night. I went to Kunsthistorisches cause it was open late.
I saw this IRL
After that I went to the opera! It was really nice. Did you know you can just read what they are singing and you can choose English or German!
It was cold but I went for a walk around the city and took the trolley around the center. There were many Christmas markets and they were cute. I wanted mulled wine but it was too sad to order one alone.
Hearts were in season!
I went to Kunsthalle. They were showing No Fashion Please and Vanity. Both were great. Well Vanity more. Here's a picture I shouldn't have taken.
Next day I went to Schonbrunn Palace.
I went to the zoo! It was so nice and the oldest in the world. I met a penguin.
This guy was just hanging by himself while all the other penguins were in a different room. I feel you bro.
Then the sea lions were going so crazy and lots of people came to watch them.
These thingies! also Nemo! and a Kimodo! Panda on a stick!
There was a bat cave. One thing that was weird was that there were just two plastic sheets with lengthwise slits separating the bats from the rest of the greenhouse. So when you walked in they just flew all over you. I felt like this could not be right, so I waited to see if other people would walk in. First a mom, grandma and little boy. Mom walked in and then immediately ran out, then they took the elevator to avoid it. I did too but then I decided I had to man up. I held my eyes and mouth shut and walked through. It was not even fun but I did it.
This building was nice.
I went shopping a couple times and didn't by anything. On the way to the bus I found this. It is the Ferris wheel from the film, The Third Man.
Every morning I ate an all you can eat buffet for 3 Euros. It was really great. Every evening I had to sit in the common room to use the internet. This would be fine but everyday at about 6pm. A guy that looked identical to my old boss (Trevor Molinski sorry) would come in with his laptop and stink out the whole room. No joke I was mid-conversation with Tyson and had to run away it was so bad. WTF happens in your life that you smell like that. I know there is a shower you can use there is no excuse.
I listened to this album a lot while shopping and felt cool and liked this song the most.
